World's best jockey to ride undefeated Hungarian stallion
Christophe Soumillion of Belgium, considered the best jockey of the world, will ride Hungary's undefeated world-class sprinter Overdose this year.
Overdose, considered to be the best horse to emerge from Hungary since the great Kincsem in the 1870s, has attracted purchase offers as high as 5 million euros. But the stallion is not up for sale. "It would be very unwise to sell the horse now that he is starting to make sports history," Zoltan Mikoczy, his owner, said.
Overdose, who has won all his 11 races so far, is scheduled to compete in nine races this year. The season is to start in Budapest's Kincsem Park on April 19, to be followed by four races in England, including Ascot and Newmarket. To date no horse has triumphed in the two Ascot derbies and the Newmarket race in the same year.
"Remaining undefeated throughout the season is a wild dream but we work hard to make it true," Mikoczy said.
Overdose's season will continue with four races in the autumn, including Baden-Baden, Paris, California or Melbourne, and Hong Kong.
