World Science Forum opens today in Budapest
The world's scientific community and the international media will turn their attention to Budapest for the next three days as the World Science Forum, the most significant scientific forum in the world opens its doors at the Academy of Sciences.
Presidents, prime ministers and leaders of foreign academies will attend the conference organised by the Academy.
President László Sólyom is the principal sponsor of the event, whose main theme will be the protection of natural resources. He welcomes Presidents Heinz Fischer of Austria, Stepjan Mesic of Croatia, Horst Köhler of Germany and Karolos Papoulias of Greece to a heads of state panel this morning.
Economy and Transport Minister János Kóka will address the conference tomorrow, and Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány will speak at Saturday's closing session. Environment Minister Gábor Fodor will also participate.
Hungarian-born US scientist Charles Simonyi, recently a famous space tourist, delivered the keynote membership acceptance speech on Wednesday.
