Hungary's undefeated world-class sprinter Overdose will be among the contestants at the annual New Year's Eve races at Budapest's Kincsem Park, daily Nepszava reported on Tuesday.
Overdose, who is considered to be the best horse to emerge from Hungary since the great Kincsem in the 1870s, has attracted purchase offers as high as 5 million euros.
The team behind Overdose is to receive on Wednesday the first fair play award from the Hungarian Olympic Committee since horse racing became an Olympic sport.
There will be 11 races starting at 1.45 pm at the free annual event which is expected to attract 10,000 visitors, director of the national horse racing company Lajos Vajto told the paper.
Several well-known Hungarian sportspeople and actors will compete at the Istvan Bubik memorial race, which has been held annually since 1990. The entire event will be broadcast live by the Sport 2 television channel.
Between races, the Kincsem Dixieland Band will play popular tunes and the evening will conclude with fireworks.
