Women again outstrip men in Hungarian higher education
More women than men applied to higher education institutions in Hungary this year, continuing a trend that began in 2001, writes gondola.hu. At the same time, there are studies that are typically preferred by either men or women. Barely any men applied for crafts training and kindergarten teacher training, while electronic engineering and mechatronics courses are exclusively occupied by men, according to the latest survey by the National Higher Education Information Center. On the whole, more women (54%) applied for Bachelor courses.
The number of applicants who hold at least one "C" type (both spoken and written) intermediate level state language exam was highest (79.7 %) among those who wish to study economics. A large majority (72.2 %) of applicants applying to study international economics also have these language qualifications, and this percentage is also large (more than 70%) among applicants to German studies.
This year again, only a little more than one third (34%) of applicants speak a foreign language on a higher level, which puts the most popular subjects a long way ahead. Tenth-placed design and art theory, for example, has double the average number of applicants holding a higher level language exam, the survey writes.
