Wizz Air to pay higher compensation for flight delays
Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air’s practice of paying only €4 if a flight was delayed two hours has been ruled to be in violation of European Union laws requiring proper compensation for extra costs arising from food and stay expenses involved with delayed flights.
According to index.hu, in the future, Wizz Air (and all airlines operating in Hungary) will have to give passengers food vouchers worth €8 for two hour delays, €13 for five to eight hour delays and €18 for eight to 11 hour delays in their flights. The amount increases with the length of delay, so for example, €38 would have to be given to passengers in case of a delay of 20 to 23 hours.
