Winners of "For a Flowery Hungary" competition announced
The city of Eger and the village of Noszvaj won this year's "For a Flowery Hungary" ("Virágos Magyarországért") competition, objektivhir.hu reports. The two towns, both located in Northern Hungary, will represent Hungary at the 2007 "Entente Florale Europe," an international horticultural competition.
Flowers over Eger: Having "out-flowered" the competition in Hungary, the famous wine town of Eger (above) and a nearby village will represent Hungary in a European-wide horticultural contest next year.
"Entente Florale Europe" was started over three decades ago, and aims to promote the protection of mutual European environmental and cultural values, and the creation of a more liveable environment, in the spirit of European togetherness. Over 12 countries, 25 thousand towns, and 50 million people participate in the competition across Europe every year. This year's competition is Hungary's 13th. In 1994, only 69 towns competed, while this year 406 towns were involved.
The local contest is sponsored by the Hungarian Tourism Board, which believes the competition contributes to the development of more cultivated, welcoming and inviting towns across the country.
