Two women giving birth at home hospitalized in Budapest

Two women who were giving birth at home needed to be taken to the hospital due to severe blood loss in the past few days in Budapest, reports origo.hu.

One of the mothers was taken to the Ferenc Jahn South Pest Hospital early Saturday morning after complications during her planned home birth. The hospital said that when the woman arrived at the hospital, she was not accompanied by qualified helpers. The institution reported the case to police, because those who assisted the birth may be responsible for the woman's serious condition. The baby is doing well, and the woman is expected to recover soon.

Early Tuesday morning, another woman was taken to the János Hospital from an institution called "Sunshine House of Birth" (Napvilág Születésház) on Alma utca (District XII). A spokesperson for the ambulance service said that the condition of the mother was similar to that of the other woman on Saturday. Mother and baby are now doing well.

According to hirado.hu, the woman who was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday was giving birth at the same institution where a tragic home birth happened in September. The baby's shoulders became caught in the birth canal and its life could not be saved at the hospital. The tragic birth was assisted by Ágnes Geréb, the founder of the institution. The parents of the baby who was born on Tuesday gave contradicting statements on whether Geréb was present at the birth.

The ministry of health will hold a press conference regarding a bill to govern home birth in November.
