Two Budapest paramedics arrested for stealing from patient
The two paramedics have been arrested in Buda for stealing Ft 300,000 from a patient.
The two paramedics are suspected of having stolen the possessions of an unconscious, elderly patient on October 4 . The 93-year-old woman had fallen in a supermarket. The two paramedics offered to bring her bags back to her home and take her to the hospital. When she was released and returned home, she found that Ft 300,000 was missing. Her relatives called the police and the two men were escorted to the police station in handcuffs. Investigators suspect that this is not the first time they have stolen from patients. They were released after questioning but suspended from their work. The National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) has initiated an internal investigation.
One of the two paramedics has already talked about the case. He denies the charge stating that he was alone in her apartament only long enough to put her food in the refrigerator. He also declared that, after 15 years as a paramedic, he does not feel the need to steal. He expects the investigation to be closed due to a lack of evidence, after which he intends to sue his accusers.
