Travelers shun Budapest airport train service
The train station built by state railway company MÁV six months ago to serve Budapest's Ferihegy Airport Terminal 1 remains underused, despite a concert effort to publicize the service, writes Magyar Hírlap.
Based on data provided by state railway company MÁV, 1,200 passengers use the station each day, a very low number compared to the 22,000 passengers who use the airport each day (8 million per year).
According to Budapest Airport, only 2% of their passengers use train to reach the terminal, which is the lowest in Europe.
Several days during the month of January, the platform was covered by a thick layer of ice, because it was not being cleaned, and there were not enough passengers to flatten the snow.
The taxi company serving the airport, Zóna Taxi, also reported that they "do not see passengers in long, thick lines pulling their luggage behind them."
