Train service between Malmo and Lake Balaton planned
From the summer of 2008 a train line connecting Malmo with Lake Balaton could go into service, writes metro.hu.
The largest Swedish travel agency introduced charter trains to distant, popular tourism locations this past summer. Since the idea met with high demand, the agency will put the trains into operation again next summer, and wants to include Lake Balaton among the destinations.
Lake Balaton Regional Tourism Commission (Balatoni RIB) is beginning to negotiate with the state railway company and the under-secretary of tourism from the local authority. According to the actual route, passengers traveling through Berlin on Balaton charter trains have to change trains at Bratislava. This would be modified so tourists could travel directly to Lake Balaton, comfortably and fast.
