Train crash kills four in Eastern Hungary
The death toll of train crash south east of Budapest on Monday morning has risen to four, officials told MTI.
The accident happened shortly after 10:00 local time at Monorierdo when a passenger train collided into the last carriage of an intercity train on its way from Debrecen (E) to Budapest.
Several of the estimated 30 injured are in a critical condition, said Pal Gyorfi, spokesman of the National Ambulance Service.
Twelve ambulances and three ambulance helicopters were at the site, he added.
Tibor Dobson, spokesman of the disaster management authority, said 30 firefighters were at the scene.
Services were suspended on both tracks. MAV was putting plans in place to free up one of the tracks or to provide a replacement bus service.
