Numerous changes to regulations covering public transport, parking and traffic will take place in Budapest throughout this year's August 20 holiday weekend.

Parking will not be permitted in the vicinity of state-organized events - mainly on the Danube embankments and near Hősök tere (Heroes' Square) - during the holiday weekend and on Monday.

A detailed map of the restrictions issued by the Budapest Police can be downloaded from here.

Schedules for trams, buses and trolley buses operated by Budapest transport company BKV will also be affected by the events on Hősök tere and along the Danube.

Due to the closure of Dózsa György út and Hősök tere, Trolleys 75 and 79 will follow a modified route along Dózsa György út - Állatkerti út - Hermina út - Ajtósi Dürer sor (Stefánia út for Trolley 75) - Dózsa György út in both directions on the long weekend.

As sections of Andrássy út will also be closed, Bus 4 will follow this modified and shorter route between Gyöngyösi út and Mexikói út (Kacsóh Pongrác út): Hungária körút - overpass - Kacsóh Pongrác út - Mexikói út (Kacsóh Pongrác út) - terminus - Mexikói út - Szőnyi út - M3 - Hungária körút - overpass - Hungária körút - Lehel út. From 2 p.m. on Sunday, trains on the M1 underground (yellow) line will be running more frequently to compensate.

Batthyány tér will be closed to traffic all weekend, and the Chain Bridge (Lánchíd) will be closed several times for different periods of time, forcing changes to the routes of trams 19 and 41, and buses 16 and 105. Tram passengers will be transported by replacement buses between Batthyány tér and Döbrentei tér - Fő utca will be made two-way for these few days - from today until 5 p.m. on Monday.

Before, during and after the fireworks display which starts at 9 p.m. on Monday, the banks of the Danube will only be accessible by foot. Trams and buses that have stops near the embankment will have a different terminus a few stops away from the river, while trams and tram replacement buses that travel along the embankment will not be running. Affected services are Tram 2, 4-6, 18, 19, 49, 41 and 47, Bus 5, 7, 73, 8, 9, 12, 86, 112, 15, 16, 27, 78 and 105, and the replacement buses for Tram 47-49.

On Monday, all three underground lines, HÉV trains, Trams 14, 50 and 56 and connecting bus services will run until midnight, while Tram 6 will run all night.
