Trabants receive further exemption from environmental laws in Hungary

Trabant owners have won another reprieve, as the new environmental law pertaining to vehicles grants a catalytic converter exception to vehicles with two cylinder motors purchased before July 15, 2004, writes vezess.hu.

The law also extends the exemption to December 31, 2020, in case any Trabants, Wartburgs or Barkases are still running by that point. The exemption only applies to vehicles that do not see a change of ownership.

The exemption was passed due to the number of these vehicles drastically dropping over the previous six years, and that the majority of them are driven by enthusiasts or in the countryside.
