The Szob-Nagybörzsöny narrow-gauge railway which operates in the Börzsöny Hill in Central Hungary will undergo a Ft 2 billion (€8 million) renovation, writes Magyar Nemzet, based on a report by newswire MTI. The project will see the popular tourist attraction outfitted with new vehicles and devices, extended platforms, updated station buildings, a new visitor center and better access for the disabled.

The project, which is the second set of renovations on the railway, got the "green light" in late June, when the government made decisions relating to the Közép-Magyarországi Operatív Program (Central Hungary Operative Program), a development initiative financed from EU funds.

According to Pro Régio Közép-Magyarországi Regionális Fejlesztési és Szolgáltató Kht. (Pro Regio Central Hungarian Regional Development and Service Company), the railway offers a "complete eco-tourism product" that can spur economic development throughout the Börzsöny and Szob area.
