Tickets for Budapest public transport to rise 7.9%
Budapest transport company BKV will increase the prices of tickets and passes by average of 7.9 percent from January, the company said on Tuesday.
Pre-purchased tickets for buses, trolley buses, trams, metros and suburban trains within the city limits will cost 290 forints (EUR 1.1) and tickets bought on the spot will be 400 forints (EUR 1.5) from next year.
Monthly passes usable on all public transport, as well as Hungarian railways MAV services and Volan buses within the city limits, will cost 9,000 forints (EUR 34) or at a discount 3,550 forints (EUR 13.3) for students, pensioners and parents with young children.
100-day passes will be introduced as a new product next year, costing 27,000 forints (EUR 102) or at a discount 10,650 forints (EUR 40).
Another new feature from next year is that metro tickets will be valid for 60 minutes from the start of the journey and no extra ticket will be necessary for transfers within this timeframe.
Higher fares for night services will be cancelled from next year and normal tickets will be valid on all services regardless of the time of the day.
