Ticket inspector barriers now at all Budapest metro stations
Beginning on Monday, 17 March, all Budapest metro stations where ticket inspectors work will be equipped with physical barriers to ease ticket checking, reports hirszerzo.hu.
The barriers demarcate the only way to the stairs, a trial run installed at the Kőbánya-Kispest station on the Metro 3 line and the Blaha Lujza tér station of the Metro 2 line earlier this year proved they make it easier for controllers to check every passenger.
This is one part of a strict ticket inspection regime that was introduced almost a year ago on all metro lines. The program has given the BKV an extra income of Ft eight million (€32,000) so far. In the western parts of Europe the rate of fare-dodgers is about four to six percent, while in Hungary it was estimated that every third passenger was traveling without a valid ticket when the campaign was launched.
