Three arrested in Budapest on forced prostitution charges
Three members of a gang responsible for abducting young women and girls and forcing them into prostitution in Hungary and abroad were arrested by police last week, reports hvg.hu.
The key suspect was arrested at Budapest Ferihegy Airport last Monday, followed by two additional suspects on the same day. A whorehouse near Lake Balaton was also raided, where at least one underage prostitute was found.
The case also has an international thread. The Baranya County Police worked in close collaboration with German, Swiss and Austrian authorities in uncovering the traffickers who forced girls, who were in some cases underage, into prostitution along highways and in bars around Lake Balaton.
At the end of the night, the girls had to hand over their entire earnings. After a couple of months, the girls were usually taken abroad by accomplices.
Police have started proceedings against the suspects on charges of people trafficking.
