Teacher lynched in Olaszliszka laid to rest
Over a thousand people attended the Saturday funeral of the teacher beaten to death last weekend in Olaszliszka. On the one week anniversary of the tragedy, an anti-violence demonstration was staged at the scene of the beating.
Ibolya Dávid, the president of the Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF), was among the attendees at the funeral of Lajos Szögi, the 44-year-old teacher lynched last week in the Eastern Hungarian village after hitting a girl with his car. The girl suffered only minor injuries, but her relatives beat the teacher to death.
A memorial plaque has been placed at the scene of the crime by the local government, and mourners held a candlelight anti-violence vigil there Sunday night.
