Tanks to be used in 1956 celebration
The Office of the Hungarian Prime Minister is planning to place tanks and period military trucks in key locations of the revolution of 1956, reports inforadio.hu.
Today, the Budapest general assembly will discuss the government's proposition to position tanks at József körút, Andrássy út, Gellért tér and Városháza park, as well as two giant posters on Erzsébet Bridge on the occasion of the 50th anniversary memorials of the 1956 uprising on October 23.
"Ferenc Gyurcsány will participate in the raising of the national flag on October 23rd, and will give a speech in Parliament after the acceptance of the Budapest '56 Freedom Declaration. On the eve of the anniversary, he will attend the special performance at the Opera and the banquet dinner thereafter," the government spokesman informed the press on Thursday.
