T-Mobile to expand mobile broadband service in Hungary

"T-Mobile will continue to invest heavily in 3G mobile technology and make the service available in 47% of the country, up from the present 30%," Magyar Telekom deputy-CEO János Winkler announced. T-Mobile was the first company in Hungary to fully introduce the super-fast HSDPA service, which allows data downloads of 1.5Mb/s.

"This will be the first year when 3G-related investments will be higher than 2G ones," T-Mobile executive Zsigmond Bodnár said at the Barcelona 3GSM World Congress. The mobile carrier will spend Ft 15 billion on 3G technology this year, Napi Gazdaság estimates.

The spread of 3G is hindered by the high price of handsets but that is expected to change. T-Mobile is planning to offer Apple's iPhone, but gave no details on a possible introduction date.
