Survey reveals Hungarians become conscious of health maintenance after 60
The majority of Hungarians become conscious of their overall health and take steps to improve it only after 60, a survey released to MTI by research firm GfK on Tuesday said.
Only 21 percent of the respondents aged 60 or above described their health condition as excellent, whereas among those respondents aged between 40 and 50 as many as 52 percent held this opinion, GfK's LHS HealthCare survey shows.
Some 51 percent of those aged over 60 and concerned about their own health decide to take active steps to improve it, which in most cases includes a more conscious diet, said the survey. Additionally, many fo them start going to health screenings on a regular base.
Data compiled about domestic drug consumption shows that the majority of Hungarians begin to pay more attention to their own health only in a later phase of their life, after they are older than 60, said the survey, noting that the number of those taking medicine in that age group significantly increases.
The survey was conducted in 2009 and 2010 on a sample of 1,000 respondents.
