Hévíz (Zala County) is the richest countryside town in Hungary this year based on per capita purchasing power, according to a recent study conducted by market researcher GfK Hungária summarized by mfor.hu.

Hévíz owes its affluence to the vicinity of Lake Balaton and its thermal springs. The purchasing power of the town has grown considerably in the past few years. In 2002, it came in 26th on the list comprising more than 3,000 towns, and two years ago, it was second.

The countryside town with the second highest purchasing power index this year is Telki (Pest County), which was fourth two years ago and first in 2002. Telki is followed by two towns situated near Lake Balaton, Balatonföldvár (Somogy County) and Tihany (Veszprém County) on the list in 2006.

The study concludes that no considerable change has taken place since 2004.
