A person living in Hungary is twice as likely to die of cancer, three times more likely to die of a heart attack, and six times more likely to die of cirrhosis of the liver than a person living in other EU states, writes inforadio.hu.

Professor Rózsa Ádány Dean of the University of Debrecen presented the data when talking about the Jedlik Ányos Program, named after a Hungarian scientist, which aims to reveal and stop these tendencies. The program covers fundamental and applied research of genetic characteristics that can indicate likelihood of certain types of cancer and the progress of the disease. This is the first study in an extensive program requires a Ft 340 million (€1,360,000) investment.
