The National Conference of Student Governments (HÖOK) will stage a protest against higher education tuition fees on Budapest's Kossuth Lajos tér at 5pm on September 21. The announcement was made by Márton Schöberl, member of the HÖOK board of presidents.

According to hirado.hu, the organization expects support from every Hungarian citizen who agrees that real reforms and not tuition fees are needed in higher education. It does not, however, demand support from any political party.

Similar protest actions will be held in Debrecen, Szeged and other university towns, Schöberl added. He stressed that HÖOK was never completely against tuition fees, but that it cannot accept them in their present form. They are open to negotiations, he said.

Several civilian organizations, including the National Association of Large Families, the Trade Union of Higher Education Employees and the National Association of Hungarian Parents have announced that they support HÖOK.

The organization expects at least 10,000 people to attend the protest on September 21st.
