Stiff penalties introduced for egg and paper throwing
Anyone throwing eggs or other similar projectiles at public gatherings faces a two-year prison sentence from Sunday, a Justice Ministry official said.
Other stiffer sentences will be handed down if people who form part of a group breach the peace, with imprisonment of up to five years for some offences, said Deputy Minister Gabor Juhasz. Making preparations for such acts will also be punishable, he added.
The new measures were drafted in response to several incidents over the past two and a half years in which public and political events were marred by violent protests.
