Statue of first Hungarian president defaced
Police are looking for the persons that poured red paint on the statue of former state president Mihály Károlyi located next to the Parliament building in Budapest's District V on Tuesday morning, gondola.hu reports.
Károlyi was a leftist politician and Hungary's first president. In recent years, red paint has been poured on his statue several times.
Éva Hújber, a spokesperson for the Budapest Police, said that the paint damaged one of the statue's arms, a shoe and the marble pedestal. Police will launch proceedings for damaging a historical monument.
Cleaning work will probably be undertaken by the Budapest Gallery, the body responsible for maintenance of the statue.
