Statue for Hungarian "Golden Team" destroyed in Szeged
The brass memorial to the Hungarian soccer team of the 1950s on the banks of the River Tisza in Szeged has been demolished by unknown vandals. The stone base was broken in two and the damage is estimated at Ft 1 million.
The statue was erected in 2003 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 6-3 triumph against the English football team at Wembley. The statue was created by local sculptor Márton Kalmár. Szeged Police have launched an investigation.
