State Opera to unveil new Rosenkavalier production
The Budapest State Opera will perform Richard Strauss' comic opera The Rosenkavalier in a new production by Andrejs Zagars this month, organisers told a news conference on Monday.
Zagars's production of the opera, a staple of the Budapest Opera for the last 99 years, will premier on March 20 as part of the Budapest Spring Festival.
The production conducted by Janos Kovacs will feature mostly Hungarian singers. The international staging team includes script writer Jochen Breiholz, set designer Julia Muer, costumes designer Kristine Pasternaka, while Kevin-Wyn Jones will design the lighting.
Rather than the usual rococo set, Zagars - director of the Latvian State Opera - has deployed an Art Noveau set to reflect the time when the opera was written.
