Speed limits increased on 122 kilometers of Hungarian road
Hungary's Ministry of Economy and Transport has raised the speed limit from 90 to 100 km/h or 110 km/hon a total of 122 kilometers of roads in a move to improve "motoring morals," reports mtv.hu.
A 2007 modification of the country's traffic regulations (KRESZ) made it possible to raise the speed limit from 90 km/h not only within inhabited areas but also in open countryside. After experts examined technical parameters of roads such as slope angle, bend radius and length of straight sections, the ministry made a decision to raise the speed limit to 100 km/h on 31 kilometers of roads and to 110 km/h on an additional 91 kilometers. The new speed limits will take effect as soon as the road signs are installed, which is expected to happen before the end of the month.
