Soviet statue on Budapest's Szabadság tér defaced
Vandals threw paint on the controversial Soviet military statue on Budapest's Szabadság tér during the night. Oszkár Sass, spokesman for Budapest Police Department (BRFK), said they had received a call that the statue and its supporting stone had been defaces and that the vandals had left a graffiti tag.
The controversial statue was erected to commemorate the liberation of Hungary from Nazi rule.
Forensic work is currently underway. The District V police department has initiated proceedings.
