"Solidarity march" to be led by Fidesz on November 4
Fidesz is to hold a torchlit vigil on November 4 to remember the "victims of the brutal police attacks" of October 23. The "solidarity march" will start at Terror Háza, and demonstrators will walk to Astoria with torches, reports hirszerzo.hu. November 4 is also the date when the 1956 uprising was crushed by Soviet tanks.
In a press conference on Tuesday, spokesman Péter Szijjártó said that authorities have been notified, but kindly asked police to stay away with their tear-gas grenades, rubber bullets and batons, in order not to repeat the events of October 23.
Szijjártó also asked hooligans and troublemakers to stay away from the demonstration. Leading Fidesz politicians and members of parliament will be present at the march, and all those attending are asked to leave all flags and posters at home, and only bring along candles and torches.
