Soldier and police officer identified among rioters
The ranks of rioters have so far been found to include a professional soldier and a Dunakeszi police officer, who took part in the attack on the MTV building. Both men were demobilised with immediate effect.
Pest and Buda Central District Courts continued proceedings against detained rioters, passing down rulings of detaining them for 30 days in nearly 100 cases. Budapest Police spokesman Péter Schön told Magyar Hírlap "arrest warrants were issued against a considerable number of identified assailants."
Vandals caused in excess of Ft 230 million damage to MTV on Monday night, including destruction of telecom and security systems, archives and the cars of employees. Insurance companies will not cover the damage unless there are contractual provisions to the contrary, which MTV did not have, said Generali-Providencia staff member, Tamás Flachner. However he said the company will pay for the damage "for reasons of equity."
