Snow triggers massive pile-up outside Budapest
Snowfall slowed traffic throughout Hungary but roads were drivable both in Budapest and the provinces yesterday. Snowfall of 15-18cm was reported on the highest peaks of the Börzsöny mountain range.
Some 15-20 cars collided due to the snowfall and ice on Kuruclesi út in Budapest’s Second District on Monday. Meanwhile 60 cars were stranded in the snow between Telki and Budakeszi in Pest county, although no one was injured.
Several BKV buses were stuck in traffic jams as a result of the heavy snowfall, gondola website reported Monday evening.
Disaster control staff worked until late Monday evening to free stranded cars and trucks throughout Hungary, Kossuth Rádió reported at midnight.
