A private individual is pressing charges against Hedvig Malina for lying under oath and false testimony, reports radio.hu. The young woman claims to have been beaten up in Slovakia for speaking in Hungarian.

Malina's case was closed in September, when police came to the conclusion that her attack was fabricated.

Malina and her attorney refuse to comment on the new developments. The Slovak media has been urging the girl to take a lie detector test, even though the court does not accept it as conclusive proof. According to Slovak laws, a person who provides false testimony and misleads authorities can be sentenced to three to five years in jail.

"This is the story of an unfortunate girl, who chose a bad way to ease her stress before exams," said Robert Kaliňák, the Minister of Interior of Slovakia. According to Kaliňák, Malina's case could have been closed long ago, if it hadn't become political, but it became political because of the interference of the Slovakian Hungarian Coalition party and its "not very responsible" politicians.

"We believe that what Hedvig Malina claims is not what happened. If it happened some other way, she should have said how it happened. Certainly no brutal assault took place. If we're talking about a slap - if she even received one - that is not a crime. It's a misdemeanor," said Kaliňák.
