According to recent research by Image Factory and Observer Budapest Médiafigyelő (OBM), Siófok, the resort town on southern banks of Lake Balaton, is considered the "most attractive" place in Hungary, writes napi.hu.

The research organization polled Hungarians to find out what phrases they associated with the names of cities and towns in Hungary. Siófok was ranked both the most attractive place and the most attractive big city, with most people associating at least three positive phrases when told its name.

Elsewhere, Miskolc was deemed the most attractive country city and Balatonfüred the most attractive small town. Meanwhile Kőszeg, a town near the Austrian border, didn't score any points for its historic city center, the city's website was deemed the most elegant, modern and user-friendly.

According to OBM, a city's image is like a brand. And the research indicated that there is a correlation between attractiveness and "tourism and investment." The organization recommends that towns think of their "image" as a product and work to improve in order it to build local industry.

Siofok was already popular tourist destination due to the proximity to Lake Balaton and the mild climate year round. It is known regionally as the unofficial "capital of Lake Balaton."
