Security guard suffers critical injuries in Budapest café fire
A security guard needed to be rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a fire broke out in the popular outdoor bar next to the Rudas Baths at around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, reports index.hu. A gasoline can found at the scene indicates arson.
Firefighters found an empty gasoline can and an unlit torch at the nearby stop of of the number 7 bus. Eyewitnesses reported that two men escaped the scene when the flames erupted. A security guard was rescued by a German tourist before firefighters arrived. The guard suffered burns on 90% of his body.
Flames were contained to the 200 square-meter wooden structure of the café adjacent to the Rudas Baths and did not damage historic bath building, although firefighters needed to cool it with water.
Experts are investigating the possible cause of the fire.
