Sárospatak voted Hungary's city of the year
Sárospatak (Borsod County), previously dubbed the "Bodrogside Athens" and the "Hungarian Cambridge", has now won the title of Hungarian city of the year, writes tabloid Blikk.
During a poll initiated by the MTV show Főtér, the audience voted for one of twenty cities on the list. Sárospatak won the poll, making locals very proud.
Deputy mayor János Aros said that it was the hard work of locals that had won the prize and arranged a new year's party to celebrate on the main square at the Calvinist school.
In the praise of the city he mentioned the beautiful sight of the Zempléni mountain and the Bodrog river, the Tokaj wines and the thermal water, the Rákóczi castle, the 470-year-old Calvinist College and the tarn on the Megyer Hill. He added that, since Sárospatak lives almost exclusively from tourism, the prize is extremely important for locals.
Last year's winner of the poll, Szarvas benefited from a 25 percent increase in tourism traffic.
