Same-sex partnership law challenged in court
Four objections were filed at the Constitutional Court against the recent law allowing same-sex partnerships from July 1, Court spokesman András Sereg told Magyar Hírlap.
"The law weakens marriage, because it creates a similar institution," according to Antal Hámori, head of the Life Protection Forum. "The Constitution protects marriage and also encourages lawmakers to create a legal environment that urges citizens to opt for marriage and children," he added.
The law may not be formally challenged as unconstitutional until it enters into force, Sereg explained. As the Court is on summer vacation, the objections can not be dealt with before the autumn.
