The number of accidents caused by people falling asleep at the wheel have increased at a rate higher than ever in Hungary in the past few years, writes vezess.hu, based on traffic statistics provided by police. Occurrences of speeding and drunk driving have also increased.

Between 2005 and 2006, the number of accidents caused by drivers falling asleep increased by 86, an unprecedented increase. On a positive note, the number of deaths caused by these accidents is decreasing.

Fatigue was the cause of 16% of all bus accidents in the last five years, and every sixth such accident resulted in death. Among truck and car drivers, the rate is slightly better. In the last years, 12.14% of truck accidents and 7.1% of car accidents caused by fatigue were fatal.
