Repairs needed on Budapest bridge after just two months
The Pentele Bridge near Dunaújváros opened just two months ago already requires renovation, reports vezess.hu
According to construction company Hídépítő Zrt., the new bridge is in an unexceptionable condition and the road surface has shown significant blistering. The company has confirmed that the bridge will be examined by experts from the István Széchenyi Technical University.
"The condition of the road surface is excellent before and after the bridge, the problem has occurred only on the bridge. The blistering is probably caused by overheating of the asphalt temperature. Because it cannot expand downwards, it has warped the road surface," said Gyula Pesti, project manager for the DunaÚj-Híd Consortium.
Pentele Bridge is the longest "basket handle" bridge in the world. The investment cost Ft 54 billion (€220 million), and it forms part of the planned M8 motorway that will make a direct connection between western Hungary and the plains to the east, providing access to Route 6 (later M6) from Route 51.
