Record number of venues sign up for Night of the Museums
A record number of 260 venues across the country will await visitors at this year's "Night of the Museums" to be held on June 20, the culture minister told reporters on Monday.
A variety of museum programmes including guided tours, workshops, screenings, concerts, dance performances and public discussions will be offered to visitors in 81 cultural institutions in Budapest and 179 venues outside the capital from 6 pm Saturday until 2 am on the next day, said Istvan Hiller.
Among the Budapest events Hiller mentioned the gastronomy show "The Night of Hot Flavours" organised by the Order of Hungarian Bakers in the Museum of Agriculture, Europe's biggest such museum at the Heroes' Square. The Budapest Millennium Underground, the second oldest underground line in the world completed in 1896, will entertain travelers with music and art shows at each of its stations until late night, an organiser said. Hungary joined other European cities and held its first Night of Museums in 2003 on the longest day of the year, the first Saturday closest to Saint John's day.
The programme last year attracted a record number of 379,000 visitors. Details about this year's event are available at the www.muzeumokejszakaja.hu website.
