Pythons stolen from Budapest zoo
Two green tree pythons have been stolen from the Budapest Zoo, a police spokesperson said on Monday.
Police are asking the public to help track down the thieves.
The two non-poisonous snakes, between 1 metre and 1.5 metre long, were stolen overnight from Thursday to Friday, the spokesman said. They are endangered species and have been marked with identification chips, he added.
The lock on their terrarium was broken. It is likely that they were lifted by people who were knowledgeable about snakes, the spokesman said. It is possible the theft had been ordered by reptile collectors or traders, possibly from abroad, he added.
Police have asked members of the public to call the toll free number 06 80 555 111 if they have information about the snakes.
