Daylilies (Hemerocallis) have been planted at the Budapest Animal and Plant Garden on Saturday, reports hirado.hu. These rare flowers native to China bloom for only one day, but new buds grow continuously, thus the plant blooms for weeks.

The name Hemerocallis comes from the Greek words for "day" and "beauty." Daylilies live at swampy, wet habitats, so they were planted at the zoo's Japanese garden, where they can grow in an ideal environment, said Rita Lampert, head of the horticulture department.

The plants were given to the zoo by the Klauzál Lions Klub, a club formed 19 years ago that helps visually impaired people.
