Protests over night-time noise delay Szabadság híd completion
The reopening of Budapest's Szabadság híd (Liberty Bridge) is expected to be delayed, as police stopped work on August 31, following complaints from local residents of loud noise at night, writes Népszabadság. Contractor Hídépítő Zrt was not aware it needed to possess special permits for doing work and night-time and on weekends.
Hídépítő Zrt applied for and received the necessary permits to continue work earlier this week, however, there are a few limitations which will cause delay. Night-time work will have to be limited to weekdays, and cutting stone or metal will have to be done during the day. Work can only be done during the day on weekends.
Hídépítő Zrt said the above limitations mean the December 20 deadline will be hard or impossible to meet.
