Protest staged at Budapest police security service HQ
More than 100 people participated in a demonstration organized by female politicians of opposition parties Fidesz and KDNP at the Budapest headquarters of the Police Security Service (Rebisz) Thursday evening, reports hirado.hu. Five Rebisz officers, a sepcial unit within the Budapest Police Department, are currently in custody for their alleged involvement in a rape case.
Protesters distributed a manifesto signed by those present to Rebisz Commander József Dobozi, who has recently announced his resignation.
"We expect police to clean up their act [...] and cast out those colleagues who do not belong there," said Fidesz Assistant Leader Ildikó Pelczné Gáll in her speech.
Protesters were holding placards saying "One resignation still to come" and "Gurcsány is responsible." They were later joined by "Kossuth tér protesters," some of whom raised their voices at a demonstration originally planned to be silent.
