Prosecutors declare Hungarian Guard functioning illegally
Prosecutor General Tamás Kovács called on the far right Magyar Gárda Society to abandon its unlawful activity after the Budapest prosecutor's office surveyed the statutes of the society, questioned its leader and examined data posted on its website.
Budapest prosecutor's office spokesman Attila Morvai said the goals of the society are at times at variance with the purposes cited in the court registration. For example, Magyar Gárda has declared that it wants to actively take part in averting disasters, but that is not one of the registered goals of the society.
The group has 30 days to decide whether to comply with the call, in order to avoid a lawsuit.
