Price of water to jump across Hungary
The price of water will jump more than 10% in many cities, and is expected to rise 8.4% in Budapest, hirszerzo.hu writes. Nationally, the price of water will rise on average 6-7%, but in many areas they change will be greater. Part of the reason for the rise in prices is the devaluation of the forint.
József Aranyos, the president of Mavíz, said that the cost of upgrading the infrastructure along with 10% annual increase in electricity prices was what forced the sudden raise in water fees.
Aranyos, who is also the head of Debrecen's water provider, said that due to as 12% rise in electricity fees in the city, they will offset this by raising water fees 6.3%.
In Budapest, where the price will jump by 8.4%, a cubic meter of water will cost Ft 180.5 from January, onto which will be added 20% VAT. The county of Győr-Moson-Sopron will see its water prices raised by 5.3% so that one cubic meter of water will run Ft 207.6.
