Hungarians respect and trust teachers and doctors more than residents of any other country in Europe, a survey by the GfK Group reveals.

On a scale of one to four, doctors and teachers received 3.2 points, on average, in Hungary. Moreover, 87% of the Hungarian respondents spoke highly of doctors and teachers. Hungarians found politicians the least trustworthy, giving them 1.7 points. Only 15% of Hungarians trust politicians.

Soldiers and police are near the top of the list on 2.9 points, priests have 2.7, lawyers 2.4 and journalists 2.2. Overall, 63% of Hungarians trust law enforcement bodies, but only 47% have faith in priests.

Top executives of major companies did not fare well, at 2.1, as only 39% of Hungarians think highly of chief executives.

The survey of 16,481 adults in 17 European countries and the US was conducted between March and May.
