Poll finds Hungarians worried about personal security
Forty percent of Hungarians regard the country's public security situation as bad, 47 percent as average and 11 percent as good or excellent, a recent survey sent to MTI on Monday showed.
The residents of Budapest and villages with over 2,000 inhabitants had a gloomier view concerning the issue.
A relative majority - 44 percent - sees a pressing need for a stricter penal code and more discouraging punishments.
Forty four percent of those asked said that social tensions and impoverishment had largely contributed to the deterioration of the security situation.
The survey was conducted by pollster Forsense under a commission by the Szazadveg Foundation on a sample of 1,000 from September 2 to 18.
