Policemen fined in conjunction with Zsanett case
Although rape charges against them were dropped, Budapest police officers involved in the Zsanett case of May 2007 have been punished by a second-degree court decision for neglecting their duties on the night in question, writes origo.hu.
The court said the five officers not only committed breach of duty but also malfeasance in office when they accompanied Zsanett E. home following a police check on May 4, 2007. Higher fines were imposed on them, and their promotions will be delayed. This case is unrelated to the report against them for rape.
The primary defendant will have to pay Ft 200,000 (€722), the secondary Ft 160,000 and the third Ft 150,000 for malfeasance in office. In addition, the primary and secondary defendants will have to wait an extra year for promotion. The fourth and fifth defendants, who had not been fined according to the first-degree court decision but only given a reprimand for breach of duty, were issued a fine of Ft 72,000 each.
Zsanett E. released a video testimony on the Internet and reported the five officers for taking her to a dark side street early morning on May 4, 2007 where two of them allegedly raped her.
